South Africa: African wings over Korea

The South African Air Force's No. 2 Squadron carried out numerous air support missions, contributing significantly to the allied effort.

South Africa contributed to the Korean War with its No. 2 Air Force Squadron, also known as the “Flying Cheetahs.” This squadron flew more than 2,000 combat missions, including bombing and escort missions.

The South African pilots operated in difficult conditions and often faced intense anti-aircraft fire. Despite this, they demonstrated great effectiveness in their missions, providing direct support to ground forces.

Its participation strengthened ties between South Africa and the international community, and was one of the few times the country participated in a multilateral operation during the 20th century.
