Multinational Participation in the Korean War

A global effort for peace

In the Korean War (1950-1953), Colombia was not alone in its support of South Korea under the call of the United Nations. The Multinational Force was composed of fifteen nations that contributed troops and resources: the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ethiopia, the Philippines, France, Greece, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey. This joint effort highlighted international solidarity in the face of aggression and the defense of democratic principles.

Colombia and Its Role in the Alliance

A unique contribution in Latin America

Within this international coalition, Colombia was the only Latin American country to actively participate, sending soldiers from the Colombia Battalion and naval units represented by three frigates: ARC Almirante Padilla, ARC Capitán Tono, and ARC Almirante Brión. Colombia's participation symbolized a firm commitment to stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Global and regional repercussions

The joint efforts of these nations not only contributed to the cessation of hostilities in 1953, but also left a lasting legacy in the region. Although the conflict was not fully resolved, the international collaboration in this historic event continues to serve as an example of global cooperation in the pursuit of peaceful solutions to international conflicts.
